About RecycleNow

We want you to recycle more stuff more often. Most people already recycle to some degree and this campaign is designed to encourage everyone to do a bit more.

What is Recycle Now?

Recycle Now is the national recycling campaign for England, aimed at encouraging more of us to recycle more things, more often and to understand the positive benefits of our actions.

Created and delivered by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) on behalf of the Government, Recycle Now was launched in 2004 and supports the achievement of  recycling targets – most notably to help increase the national recycling rate to 40% by 2010 (currently at nearly 27%).

Recycle Now encompasses an integrated mix of TV, radio and press advertising, website support (www.recyclenow.com), schools activities and an integrated, broad-based PR campaign.

In addition, Recycle Now also works closely with key third parties including local authorities and retailers to deliver positive, consistent messages to the public at national and regional level to encourage increased recycling.

More information about WRAP's work with local authorities and retailers can be found at:

To support the wide range of campaign activity, distinctive colour-coded iconography has been developed to provide a strong visual call to action for consumers and is now being widely used by local authorities and retailers throughout the country.

Campaign results:

  • an additional 12% of the population - five million people - are now ‘committed’ recyclers, ie those who believe recycling is important and who recycle a lot, even if it takes extra effort.
  • the Recycle Now logo now has achieved an awareness of 65% amongst consumers.
