Recycler - Helping the world recycle

The Compost Competition

Check out some of the entries from this term's poster competition which is all about home composting!

We're looking for some really exciting poster designs that will get everybody composting. Let your imagination run wild with the mini-beasts that live in the bin. How about designing your own compost bin?

The prize for the competition is a trip for you and your family to visit the Eden Project. You’ll be able to see, touch and smell the plants that chocolate, chewing gum or bananas come from!

We've also got two runners' up prizes of 'Grow your own plant kits'.

The winners will be announced after the Autumn half term holiday.

So come on, start drawing today!

About composting

Composting is Nature's way of recycling and helps to reduce the amount of waste we put out for the bin men.

Make a beautiful garden by turning your fruit and vegetable peelings into compost.

  • Collect any fruit and vegetable peelings from the kitchen and add to your compost bin.
  • Collect scraps of paper, cardboard, kitchen and loo-roll inners, scrunch them up and also add them to your compost bin.
  • Any garden prunings and grass cuttings may also be added.

And hey presto, after a while, you get compost to help your flowers grow!

Keep sending your work to Recycler at Waste Watch, 56-64 Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4LT or email recycler@wastewatch.org.uk and look for it here next term.

Oh! I hope you have started your 3 point challenge at school and are remembering to remind the grown-ups about what else you can do at home!

What people say about Recycler...

When you came to do an assembly at our school I liked your dance and I learnt a lot about recycling and reusing. I enjoyed it. I have got my mum to reuse the plastic bags from the supermarket.
