Want to see the bins before you order them?
Look out in the events column for where I am going to be and come along to see me if you can. I always bring with me a selection of the 4 bins on offer in Scotland depending on the size of the space I have available to me. Sometimes it is easier to have a look at the compost bins to help you decide which one suits your needs best, it's also a good opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about composting.
If you stay close to Dundee, Duntrune Demonstration Gardens just off the Arbroath Road have 3 of the compost bins on display, the Ecomax 330, Komp 250 and Komp 800.
How to get started.
If you have just got a new compost bin or have emptied out your existing one, now is the time to put a small layer of woody prunings covering the bottom of the compost bin to allow for aeration. You now have the perfect base to start filling your compost bin with all the compostable items you find around your garden and in your home. However, be careful as this tends to be the time of year when you have too much of the dry 'brown' material like woody prunings and cardboard. Either recycle the excess via your council or why not store them in a suitable location so that you can use them during the summer when you generally have too much 'green' material.
