Welcome!

Hello! My name is Gill and I am the Home Composting Adviser for your area. I am looking forward to meeting you whilst I am out and about in the area this year.

My job is to help promote home composting to everyone and to do this I visit shows, farmers markets, local events and even car boot sales to give help and advice on composting.

Please come and visit me at any of the events to ask me your home composting questions or just to let me know how you are getting on if you are already composting!

I can also help local groups and schools by giving talks and class visits so please contact me via our helpline number on 0845 600 0323 or catch up with me at any event.

I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Spring is here!

Many of you will now be clearing out any winter bedding plants, ready for the spring and summer plants to go in!  Just be careful of any late frosts that will still be likely for many of us yet!!   Remember that the old flowers can be put into your compost bin along with uncooked kitchen waste like vegetable peelings, tea bags and fruit peelings.  As always, you just need to remember to put an equal amount of 'browns' with them. These can be shredded paper, cardboard, scrunched up newspaper and even pet fur!

It is now a good time to be adding a layer of compost to your borders to help promote good plant growth over the year.  This is best done when the weather is getting warmer and the soil has also warmed up a bit.  A thin layer of a compost will help to keep moisture in the soil and help to stop annual weeds from getting established in your garden.  Just be careful of any spring flowering bulbs and perennial plants that are now starting to come out in the garden!

Please look at our web pages for more help and advice on composting and enjoy your garden!

Compost Awareness Week!

Sunday 4th May - Saturday 10th May

Compost Awareness Week will soon be here again and there will be a range of events around the area so please keep checking my web page.

Compost display information, a display bin and a wormery can be seen at Whisby Natural World Centre, Thorpe-on-the-Hill, near Lincoln as part of the 'Locavores' exhibition which is being held there until 20th June 2008.  For further details please contact the centre on 01522 688686.

From Tues 6th May until 11th May we will also have a small display with leaflets at the Waterside Centre, High Street, Lincoln for you to pop along to and pick up leaflets to help you with your composting.
