Blooming Beautiful Compost Bus Tour is a Raging Success!
Compost Bus Tour is Blooming Beautiful!
The Compost Bus hit the road during May 2005An eye-catching double-decker “Compost Bus” which toured England during Compost Awareness Week (1-7 May) encouraging people to unearth their ‘greener’ side has been hailed a roaring success!
Over 800 visitors were attracted to the brightly coloured bus which featured an impressive roof top garden and an exhibition/information centre.
Visitors to the bus could see the home-composting process for transforming kitchen and garden waste, such as fruit and vegetable peelings, grass cuttings, prunings and leaves into high quality, free compost.
A range of recycled furniture was also on show, while the rooftop garden highlighted the blooming marvellous results of using peat-free compost.
Trelawney Dampney, Chairman of The Composting Association, comments: “Compost Awareness Week was an ideal time for people to find out more about their options of being greener in the garden. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet people face to face and provide helpful tips and advice about home compost and using composts containing recycled materials.”
A recent survey says that one in three of us already compost at home, but here are some top tips for even greener gardening:
• choose composts labelled reduced peat or peat-free, which contain recycled materials – they do a good job with top quality results;
• recycle your garden waste – either home compost or separate out garden waste and use a council collection service or household recycling centre;
• put up bird feeders and plant shrubs and flowers that attract birds and wildlife into the garden and
• choose furniture for your garden made from recycled materials, e.g. tables and chairs made from recycled plastic.
