Basildon beats targets for recycling waste

12 September 2008

Basildon hits national recycling targets for the first time.

Figures released by Basildon Council show recycling rates have gone up from 28 per cent to 32 per cent in the financial year 2007/08.

To help achieve this, Basildon Council increased recycling by 10 per cent in just two years and now meets the Government’s 2000 Waste Strategy which called for 30 per cent of all household waste to be recycled by 2010.

To encourage recycling, Basildon Council included almost every home on the green waste collection service, which was extended from nine months to all year round and saw more than 50,000 new wheeled bins delivered to residents for recycling garden waste.
