Bulgaria - Environment Ministry prepares war on plastic bags
05 June 2008
Bulgaria's Ministry of Environment and Water Affairs (MOEW) is preparing laws designed to limit the usage of the plastic bags in Bulgaria. A Bulgarian private broadcaster, bTV, reported at the beginning of June that plastic bags are not being recycled and represent a huge source of pollution.
The Sofia Echo reports that plastic bags in Bulgaria can be recycled in plastic recycling factories but collecting the bags is difficult. Bulgarian packaging waste recovery organisations are recycling thicker bags, but not thin plastic bags in widespread use by most Bulgarian shops.
