From polystyrene to carrot tops…

One of London’s top food markets hopes to become the first in Britain to recycle 100 per cent of all its waste as part of a new project announced by Tower Hamlets Borough Council.
The landmark scheme is being launched by Whitechapel Market in London’s East End. Each stall holder will be responsible for putting recyclables in their allocated recycling bins and will be provided with a special food recycling bin for their waste, which will be collected twice daily. The council hopes the scheme will eventually be spread across the Borough’s ten other markets. Most of the UK’s markets recycle only a fraction of the waste they produce - usually cardboard, paper and a few other select materials.
