Update from Recycle Now on the demand for recycled materials

You may have seen reports in the press questioning the value of recycling your household waste.

It is true that like many areas of the economy, the prices of recycled materials have been fluctuating.  They rose earlier in the year and more recently some have fallen.

Despite this confusion, our overwhelming advice to householders is to continue recycling whatever you can.

The facts are:

  • While some parts of the country have been affected, the demand for high quality recycled materials still exists
  • If we don't recycle we will only add to the amount of waste that goes to landfill, with the worst possible environmental consequences
  • We are working with local authorities in affected areas to help ensure materials continue to be recycled

Inevitably, some types of material have been more affected than others and will take longer to get back to normal.
