Mall sold on recycling

The Lowry Outlet Mall in Manchester is aiming to become the greenest shopping centre in the North West.

The mall's 80 stores, restaurants and cafes generate more than 600 tonnes of rubbish and waste annually, so mall bosses have installed baling machines for cardboard boxes and bins for aluminium cans and plastic bottles. It is hoped that the mall will also be able to recycle retailers’ plastic waste.

The operations and facilities manager at the mall believes its green programme could become a blueprint which other shopping malls could follow.
