Give your dad a recycling treat

Gift ideas that show you’re thinking of him – and the planet

It’s Father’s Day this Sunday – and that means it’s dads’ turn for some special treatment.

So here are some gift suggestions that show you’re thinking of him – and some ideas to get him thinking too.

Help out in the garden

A gardener spreads recycled wood mulch onto a bedIf your dad’s a keen gardener, take the opportunity this Father’s Day to find out about his habits. Does he recycle grass clippings or kitchen waste in a home composting bin? Has he got a water butt to collect rainwater?

A few little suggestions like this – and a bit of action from you – could mean his borders or veg beds are looking rosier than ever this time next year.

Put him onto a good DIY tip

It usually falls to dads to play the DIY expert. Let him have a day off this Sunday, of course, but let him know that the next time he’s working around the house, he could benefit from recycling initiatives.

For example, unused paint is available free or very cheaply at some local recycling sites, and your local Freecycle movement is a brilliant source of free bits and pieces, as well as a great way to offload unwanted furniture and decorations.
