Talking bins will add fun to recycling
09 June 2008
An Alfreton recycling firm is spreading the green message with its new talking recycling bins, which are used to collect aluminium cans.
The bins work by placing a can in a slot and pulling a lever at the side. The person using the bin will see their can being crushed before being thanked by a recorded message. The company believe people would be more inclined to recycle if it was made more fun.
The bins use the same technology as the company's talking penguin bins, which have been used in primary schools for the past ten years to encourage children not to litter. They are being piloted in Norwich city centre.
