Batteries

Batteries

Yes, but only a few local authorities currently operate battery collection schemes. You may be able to recycle batteries at your local recycling centre.

WRAP's battery trials

WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) has launched several battery recycling trials across the UK. To find out if you live in an area where these trials are taking place or to find out how they work, please visit

What else can I do with them?

Currently WRAP is working with local authorities to increase battery recycling facilities all over the UK. To find out if your Local Authority is collecting batteries, use the Bank Locator to get their contact details.

If you can't recycle batteries in your area, try to Reduce and Reuse instead.

Reduce!

  • Plug electrical equipment into the mains electricity where possible.
  • Try to buy appliances that use renewable energy: a wind-up radio or torch, dynamo bicycle lights or a solar powered calculator.

Reuse!

  • Use rechargeable batteries wherever possible - you can even buy a solar powered recharger!
