Christmas cards

82 million Christmas cards were recycled in 2006!

How should I recycle greetings cards?

Christmas cards

Every January The Woodland Trust teams up with Tesco and WHSmith to collect and recycle millions of Christmas cards.

  • Just take your Christmas cards along to WHSmith high street stores and Tesco Extra and Superstores.
  • The cards will be recycled into newspapers, power towels and writing paper.
  • The money raised goes to help the Woodland Trust to plant trees and maintain our woodlands. You really can turn your cards back into trees!

Re-use your greetings cards

  • Use old cards as book-marks or Christmas decorations
  • Make gift tags by cutting cards up, punching a hold and threading string or ribbon through
  • Cut the card in half, and use the side with the picture on as a postcard (check that it’s blank first!)

Cut out and use to make new cards! Cards that are hand made seem much more personal.
