RECYCLING CHAMPION - SUE BERWICK
Name
Sue Berwick
Location
Staines, Middlesex
What do you recycle?
Pretty much everything! My local council collects things like newspaper, cans, glass and aerosols. But I also recycle batteries and printer cartridges.
I even recycle the plastic film that’s wrapped around weekend newspaper supplements and magazines we have delivered. I think there’s one company that you can send it back to – Polyprint – and because it’s so lightweight, at least the postage is cheap!
How did you first get into recycling?
When I was at university in Kent a few years ago – it was easy to start, as the student union managed recycling facilities.
Tell us why you're a Recycling Champion
Well, I’m a big believer in recycling and reusing things – perhaps it’s because of my Scottish upbringing! But I’ve always bought from and given to charity shops – I like the idea that someone else can benefit from my clear-outs at home.
Tell us your top recycling tip
I’ve got two!
Save wrapping paper, cut it to size and use it as pretty drawer liners. If you also put a perfume sample from a magazine in the drawer you'll soon have a scented drawer liner.
If you receive a mail order catalogue in the post you’ll often find that there’s an envelope enclosed for you to make an order. As I usually place orders on the internet, I save the envelopes and reuse them for other purposes by sticking a label over the company’s pre-printed address, writing the address I’m sending it to, and adding a stamp.
