Garden Waste Fact File
A mother and her children composting kitchen waste in their garden

The main issue with recycling garden waste is that not enough of us are doing it.

Around 34% of UK gardeners are currently recycling their garden and kitchen waste themselves by composting it at home – but there are many more people with gardens who could be doing the same. So, in just a few simple steps, that 34% could grow quickly – and even more gardeners can benefit from free, nutritious compost made from their own garden.

Getting the right mix...

It's important to remember that when adding a lot of fruit and veg to compost bins, it should be balanced out by some fibrous materials. Add paper towels, torn up cardboard boxes, cardboard egg boxes, toilet roll centres and paper.
