A massive 20% of all household waste produced in England is made up of garden waste, that’s the equivalent of two wheelbarrow loads full of garden waste for every single person in England.
The easiest way to reduce the amount of garden waste we produce is to compost it. Gardeners call compost ‘black gold’, as it’s precious and completely free if you compost at home. Plus it’s great for your garden.
The good news is that many gardeners are already recycling their garden and kitchen waste by home composting – 38% to be precise and over 90% of local authorities offer a garden waste collection service to households. However, there are many more people with gardens who could benefit from composting at home.
