Recycle Now has teamed up with TV presenter, interior designer and keen recycler Oliver Heath to highlight the benefits of recycling and using recycled products in the home.
Recycling Made Easy with Oliver Heath
Oliver agreed to open up his home exclusively to Recycle Now to show just how easy it is to make recycled products and materials work in any abode and be functional yet stylish at the same time.
Join Oliver as he takes you on a ‘through the keyhole’ style tour of his house and shows you how to create an eco-chic look in your home.
Oliver’s top tips are:
- make space in your kitchen for a recycling bin; there are some great bins available to buy which have compartments for different recyclable items. If you need a new bin you could check out www.homerecycling.co.uk;
- don’t forget to put a recycling bin in your bathroom too! This is often the forgotten area of the home where there are lots of recyclable items like shampoo bottles.
- having a clear out? Take unwanted stuff to a local charity shop or hold a car boot sale and make some money;
- don’t throw away your old curtains or fabrics , take them to be recycled at textile recycling banks;
- need some furniture? Why not look into buying some second hand or recycled furniture or check out http://www.freecycle.org/ to find and swap unwanted items online. Check out local antique shops, furniture reclaim yards or junk shops, or makeover an old quality piece of furniture with a lick of paint rather than buy new - the results can look great;
- get creative! Old scaffold boards can make for a great alternative to traditional decking – find them and more at a wood reclamation yard;
- don’t forget that if you’ve got some waste wood left over from doing some DIY, why not donate it to your local wood reclamation yard or take it to your local civic amenity site to be recycled or turned into bark chippings;
- old wooden light fittings just need a coat of paint to make them fit in with your homes design. Paint them up, maybe change the shade and fit them with an energy saving bulb; and
- if you have any leftover paint after your home improvements, instead of leaving it in your garage or shed, why not donate it to your local community repaint scheme or take it to your local recycling center if that service is available in your area.
