Can we help?
Please read the answers to commonly asked questions below to see if these will answer your query.
Q: How do I find out what and where I can recycle xxxx?
A: You can find out what you can recycle at home and where your nearest recycling centres are by simply entering your postcode into this handy locator tool.
Q: I want to recycle an old piece of furniture that is still in good condition. How do I do this?
A: There are a number of organisations you can contact to pass on your wanted furniture. They include:
- The Furniture Reuse Network (FRN), who holds details of a network of organisations who reuse furniture.
- If you live in Scotland you can also find a local re-use organisation through CRNS, by telephoning the National re-use phone line on 0800 0665 820, or donate it to a Revolve accredited store.
- If you live in Northern Ireland, try re:store, a chain of outlets run by the East Belfast Mission. They accept a wide range of donated items
You can also check the Recycling Locator as this is now beginning to include places where you can pass on your unwanted items too.
You could also advertise the item on some of the free recycling websites, within your local free newspapers or local supermarket noticeboards.

Q: How do I recycle a bulky item I cannot transport?
A: Speak with your local council - they should be able to arrange a bulky waste collection for you.
Q: Where can I purchase a compost bin / caddy bags?
A: Many local councils have teamed up with Evengreener/Get Composting to offer residents home composting bins and accessories such as caddy bags at reduced prices. Please check the Get Composting website to see if your council is taking part.
You may also find that some of the larger garden centres and supermarkets now also sell compost bins/compostable bags.
Q: My bin has not been collected / has been stolen / is broken?
A: You will need to raise this with your local council. Ask to speak to the Waste Team.
Q: Can you link to my organisation from your website?
A: Due to the number of requests we receive to link to other websites and organisations, we are unable to respond to unsolicited link requests.
If you're running a recycling or re-use event and would like us to share the details on our website, please let us know using our simple events form. You can also tweet us @recycle_now, as we may be able to mention your event or initiative via Twitter if it supports our aim to help consumers in the UK to reduce, re-use and recycle.
Where we do include links on our website, we follow certain guidelines when deciding which organisations we provide links to.
