Calling all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, are you up for a Recycling Challenge?
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts across England are taking on a new, exciting environmental challenge, as Recycle Now teams up with The Scouts Association!
The ‘Ready, Set, Recycle’ challenge which runs until end of May 2016 sees young people in Scouting across England compete to recycle the most plastic, paper, card, metal and glass packaging items at home. Teaching young people to recycle when they’re young means they’re eager to protect the environment when they’re older. Amazingly, if every Scout - recycled one more plastic milk bottle, it would save enough energy to power a primary school for 1½ months – over half a school term.
Recycle Now’s easy steps for recycling at home are the perfect starting point for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and their families to get involved in the challenge.
The four easy steps for recycling at home from Recycle Now are:
Check the Recycling Locator to find out what you can recycle at home and where your nearest recycling point is.
Use our ‘What to do with’ guide to find out information on how to recycle a specific item.
Some things such as plastic bottles and metal tins need to be emptied before you put them out for recycling, use leftover washing up water to give them a quick rinse.
You can make recycling part of your weekly supermarket trip and “drop when you shop” at supermarket recycling points.
With a talk about upcycling, food available, an upcycling competition and designing a fridge magnet arts and craft activity for children, join us and celebrate the official launch of the reuse shop at Kings Road Reuse and Recycling Centre.
