Script for video: The Recycling Centre or Materials Recycling Facility - how it works
Here at the materials recovery facility unsorted recycling arrives and is loaded onto conveyers where non recyclables are removed.
It is then put on a vibrating machine that separates the cardboard and paper. Different types of paper are sorted by hand and then baled.
The rest of the recycling continues along another conveyer where steel cans are removed by using magnets.
Optical scanners are used to identify plastic bottles, pots and tubs which can then be separated.
An eddy current is used to separate aluminium cans.
Finally the glass that remains drops off the end into a large container.
Now sorted the separated materials are sent to be recycled.
