What to do with
Animal bedding & waste
Want to recycle animal bedding but don't know if you can?
Animal beds are usually recyclable at recycling centres. To find out where your nearest recycling facilities are located, use our handy Recycling Locator tool.
Can I recycle pet beds?
- Old pet blankets or beds made from fabric can be recycled with textiles at a recycling centre.
- Plastic animal beds should be recycled with plastics - ask an operative at the Recycling Centre to find out which container to put it in.
What about pet bedding?
- Used hay, straw and sawdust bedding from 'vegetarian' animals such as rabbits or guinea pigs can be put in your household garden waste collection, if this service is offered in your area, or your home composting bin, or taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre and recycled with garden waste.
Pet waste such as cat litter should be bagged and put in the general waste bin.
Pet waste in the bin please!
